Today marked a significant milestone for the residents of Nkandla and Mlalazi as Mayor A.T Ntuli, of the King Cetshwayo District council, unveiled a groundbreaking water project set to enhance the lives of many.

The launch ceremony took place at Power Sportfield in Nkandla, where the sod-turning event signaled the commencement of the Middledrift Water Treatment Works Upgrade. With a budget of R55.3 million, this project aims to bolster the water distribution system across numerous wards, benefiting more than ten wards in total. Specifically, wards 7, 11, 13, and 14 in Nkandla, as well as wards 1 through 7 in Mlalazi, are set to reap the rewards of improved access to clean water.

During the ceremony, Mayor Ntuli emphasized the positive impact of the project, highlighting its potential to transform communities and uplift livelihoods. Moreover, the initiative is expected to create over 30 job opportunities for local residents, further contributing to economic growth and empowerment in the region.

Mayor Ntuli also underscored his commitment to addressing pressing community needs, noting that the water project is just one of many initiatives aimed at driving progress and development. He revealed that in the 2023/2024 financial year alone, his administration has allocated R362.9 million towards various community projects, with more initiatives on the horizon.

As contractors prepare to commence work in March 2024, with completion slated for December 2025, anticipation and optimism run high among residents. The launch of the Middledrift Water Treatment Works Upgrade represents a significant step forward in the quest for sustainable development and improved quality of life for all residents of Nkandla and Mlalazi.
